How Beforepay’s AI model drives strong returns

Beforepay Group Ltd Finance Manager Shreya Prakash talked with Proactive about the company’s dual focus on domestic consumer lending and enterprise software through its Carrington Labs division. She explained that Beforepay’s core product—a pay advance offering—provides short-term loans with a fixed 5% fee and no hidden costs, aiming to support Australians with transparent and ethical lending. Prakash said, “The most common reason people borrow from us is not because they want to go for a vacation... but to tide them over that short-term cash flow pinch.” She highlighted that this flagship product, launched in 2020, remains central to the business and differentiates itself through its ethical model and efficient cost structure. Carrington Labs, the company’s AI and analytics arm, is productising the risk models that power Beforepay and expanding operations in the US. Prakash noted that the company is writing around 40,000 loans with just 50 staff, underlining a strong operational efficiency. Billy Cheung, also from the finance team, added that Beforepay became profitable in the first half of FY23. He reported revenue approaching A$20 million and net profit of A$2.8 million in H1 FY25. Notably, the company reduced net defaults from around 3% to just 1.1%, attributing this to improved credit risk models. Cheung also mentioned growth in personal loan offerings and continued investment into Carrington Labs. Tamboran Resources boosts NT gas supply with Arafura deal

Tamboran Resources Ltd CEO Joel Riddle talked with Proactive about the company's newly signed letter of intent (LOI) with Arafura Resources Ltd to supply gas from the Beetaloo Basin. Riddle explained that both companies are based in the Northern Territory, and the agreement supports local strategic projects by providing 25 terajoules (TJs) per day to Arafura's critical minerals project. The agreement aligns with Tamboran’s strategy of prioritising Northern Territory gas use. “We’re a Northern Territory company. We’ve been focused on appraising the Beetaloo Basin now for all 12 years I’ve been in my job,” Riddle said, highlighting the company’s long-term commitment to the region. Riddle also pointed out the environmental edge of Beetaloo Basin gas, which has a CO2 content of about 3%, significantly lower than the 15–20% typically found in other Australian basins. He said supplying this low-carbon gas to the East Coast would help reduce emissions by displacing higher-carbon alternatives. Discussing supply capacity, Riddle compared the Beetaloo to the Marcellus Shale in the US, noting it could provide enough gas to support the East Coast for “hundreds of years”. Tamboran plans to bring 40 TJs per day online in the first half of next year under an existing 15-year agreement with the NT Government. The Arafura deal will add a further 25 TJs daily. Riddle said work is underway with pipeline partner APA to ensure infrastructure capacity. The company aims to finalise a binding gas sales agreement with Arafura soon. ACG Metals CFO says hold hedge strategy is already paying off

ACG Metals Ltd chief financial officer Patrick Henze talked with Proactive's Stephen Gunnion about the company’s recently announced gold hedging strategy and its importance during ACG’s transition phase from precious to base metals. Henze explained that while ACG Metals is ultimately targeting copper production from its Gediktepe mine in Turkey by 2026, the mine currently generates strong cash flow from gold and silver. The company has moved to hedge 50% of its gold production at US$2,875 per ounce through January 2026, helping secure revenue in a volatile pricing environment. He noted: “We are currently producing gold and silver, which is a perfect transition for us to become a copper producer in ’26… we can benefit and protect a bit the cash flows by hedging the gold.” The hedge program, executed with Alpha, involves no cash outlay and allows ACG to retain upside exposure above US$3,065 per ounce on the hedged portion. Henze emphasised this strategy helps ACG provide more certainty to bondholders and equity investors by de-risking key financial metrics for 2025. Trevi Therapeutics advances cough treatment pipeline, eyes key clinical milestones

Trevi Therapeutics CEO Jennifer Good joined Steve Darling from Proactive to discuss the company’s progress in advancing its cough treatment pipeline using nalbuphine, a mixed agonist-antagonist opioid. Originally developed for acute indications, nalbuphine is now being repurposed due to its dual mechanism of action, working both peripherally in the lungs and centrally in the brainstem, offering a novel approach to treating chronic cough disorders. Trevi initially explored multiple indications, including skin conditions caused by severe itching and neurological cough. However, compelling clinical data led the company to focus on cough-related indications. Good explained, “We thought our drug was different because not only does it work peripherally in the lung, it works centrally at the brain, which mediates coughing and breathing.” The company is now targeting three key areas: interstitial lung diseases (including idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, or IPF), refractory chronic cough (RCC), and other neurological cough conditions. Following promising Phase 2a results in RCC—an area where many previous drug candidates have failed—Trevi is preparing for a Phase 2b dose-ranging study. If successful, only one pivotal study may be required before regulatory filing.
