Japanese don't really eat many pomegranates, to them it's much more an ornamental tree and fruit. Perhaps in part because the japanese pomegranates are more bitter than the american ones.

I don't who's judging pomegranates to be "highly regarded" in Japan. The cultural connotations certainly do not encourage their consumption. It's really hard to find the fruits or juices for sale. Certainly pomegranates are more popular to consume in Korea for example.

Personally I doubt APRU can bring any juices to market in Japan so it doesn't matter which flavours they fail with, but it's interesting to see public statements which are so different from I've seen.

It's kind of like a Japanese fish company claiming "Americans love roe!"

Look it up, Japan has a pomegranates council, they are also highly regarded in Japanese Culture.
