Is there a similar problem with rampant IL-6 levels and CD8+ cell exhaustion in common cold? I'm dubious. I'm also dubious that using a powerful immunosuppressant in a normal, mild infection is wise. Normal, acute inflammation is a natural immune system response in fighting off viral infections.

Acute inflammation is an overreaction of the immune system. It may be slightly beneficial if the immune system does not provide an adequate virus killing response. But you mischaracterize leronlimab. The only part of the immune system leronlimab suppresses is the inflammatory response. By boosting CD8+ through calcium signalling pathways an overly acute inflammatory response would not be necessary. As far as using a sledge hammer a much lower dose would balance out reaction vs. effect.
