They do have to recruit. It is a double blind study so families have to sign consents, agree to follow up and understand that they may get placebo. Personally I would push for compassionate use for my family member and not take the risk of dying on placebo. Hopefully they find 140 patients who are desperate for the chance to get a new effective treatment and help study this treatment for the benefit of millions of people in the future.
