It doesn't just compete, it outperforms clock for clock as well
as clocks faster without the benefit of SOI.

Compared to the existing K8 core NGMA has a slightly deeper
pipeline, wider issue, more aggressive OOO execution, twice
the FP execution resources, twice (three times?) the SIMD
execution resources, and far more advanced prefetch logic.

It would not surprise me if the NGMA core uses twice the logic
transistors. Of course AMD's next gen K8 core will close the
gap a lot.
