An update on Vietnam not allowing entry for foreigners:

https://vn.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/covid-19-information/

This was updated yesterday (5/13).

Key points are as follows:

As of May 13, the Government of Vietnam has not lifted the suspension of entry for foreigners, including people with a Vietnamese visa exemption certificate. Vietnamese authorities have not announced a potential date to allow foreigners to enter Vietnam again.

There may be an opportunity despite this:

limited exemptions for diplomatic, official duty, and special cases, including experts, business managers, high-tech workers, and other essential categories as determined by the Government of Vietnam.

Also

Only Vietnamese nationals, foreigners on diplomatic or official business, and highly skilled workers are allowed to enter the country at this time. All persons entering Vietnam must undergo medical checks and 14-day quarantine upon arrival.

I know some have said Kenneth Le is Vietnamese, so he can enter no problem. That is unknowable. I'm assuming he is from Vietnam originally; however, he lives in SF and his FB page claims he is from there.

Vietnam has only allowed dual citizenship as of 2009.

Vietnam has permitted dual citizenship under limited circumstances since July 1, 2009. ... The state-run Vietnam News Agency reported that "those who apply to regain Vietnamese nationality can retain their foreign citizenship if they have justified cause and with permission from the state president"

So, again, assuming he still has a Vietnam passport is pure speculation.

Some are going to cheerlead this to death, so be it. Does Jon qualify as a "highly skilled worker" or a "business manager" or a "high-tech worker"? You never know with the Vietnamese government.

Also, flights is an issue I brought up yesterday. There are no flights from Detroit to Vietnam until 5/29, as per Google Flights. So any models will have to take that into account. Also, there are no direct flights. They take at least 34 hours if not more and are routed through Istanbul, of all places.

If you have traveled to Asia before, you'll know that 34 or more is ridiculous under normal circumstances. So basically, I take these reasons as the real reasons for the vague PR. There are too many variables (not to mention the silk worms) to pin down a timeline.
