WASHINGTON, May 14 (Reuters) - The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission said on Thursday it has charged two companies for allegedly providing misleading claims related to COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, after previously suspending trading of both.
The SEC has charged Applied BioSciences Corp. after the company said it had begun offering and shipping finger-prick COVID-19 tests to the general public, when in fact the tests could only be administered in consultation with a medical professional, the agency said in a statement.
The agency has filed separate charges against Turbo Global Partners Inc.(TRBO) and its Chief Executive Officer Robert W. Singerman for purporting to have a public-private partnership related to equipment to detect individuals with fevers when no such partnership existed, the SEC said.
