Try to ignore the silliness that was the press conference and consider this:

'Essentially pure spider silk' is not the end of the line, but rather has now become the new Step 1.

They have the ability to add (effectively) any reasonably sized protein to the concoction. Mix and match. Different properties. Custom fibers for custom needs.

I think Kim overplayed the 'pure SS' angle, and expected a LOT more attention because of it. We can tell from the share price that it was a miscalculation, but don't let it distract you from the point of the message. Custom, not biomimicry.

Of course I do agree with you (and mojo) that eventually Kim needs to stop tweaking, pick a strain to ramp up, and find a large-scale customer.
