After the reverse split AIG traded right at the same common level for a long time, but the preferred shares recovered rapidly. There should be plenty of time to sell the preferred and buy the common after the court cases and reorg is complete. The common dilution will be severe enough the the stock price and valuations will not get away from those who want to change their holdings.
