LONDON (AP) -- Tampa Bay Buccaneers owner Malcolm Glazer increased his stake in English soccer club Manchester United for the second time this month Wednesday.
Glazer now owns 8.94 percent of the reigning Premier League champion, the club said. Glazer increased his share holdings from 3.17 percent to 5.92 percent last week.
The announcement comes a day after Manchester United reported that Irish racehorse owners J.P. McManus and John Magnier boosted their share to 23.15 percent, triggering speculation the club could be the target of a takeover bid.
McManus and Magnier purchased their shares after British Sky Broadcasting sold its 9.9 percent stake in the club.
Manchester United confirmed the transfer of shares to Cubic Expression Co. Ltd., an investment company owned by the two Irishmen.
The world's wealthiest soccer team, which has commercial ties to the New York Yankees, announced pretax profits of $64.84 million for last season.
