When blood pools, stops moving, it signals the blood cells to clot. It's why guys like me with atrial fibrillation take blood thinners. The heart flutters, the blood pools risking clots, and can cause a heart attack or stroke. In the webinar, the one doctor said that the ECMO moves blood along at a high enough volume/speed that it's not an issue when used with ECMO. It becomes an issue potentially when the device doesn't have blood forced through it fast enough. That's what I heard, and sorry for my non medical terminology.
