Supplying silkworm eggs - difficult farmers
Updated at 06:42, Tuesday, April 28, 2020 (GMT + 7)

The production demand set out in the current period is that it is necessary to have high-yield bimetallic silk, good silk quality, adapted to hot and humid conditions in Vietnam. Meanwhile, Lam Dong is a key province for mulberry planting of silkworms nationwide, accounting for 80% of the area, so it is necessary for central ministries and branches to pay attention and solve difficulties.

Binary silkworm variety is being imported 90% through non-quota from China (mainly LQ2 variety), without quality control and disease control, leading to high risks for producers. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, the import of silkworm breeds from China through non-quota channels has further contributed to the lack of dual silkworm breeds, especially in Lam Dong. The official import of silkworm breeds from China to Vietnam to ensure the quality of breeding eggs and disease safety is still in the stage of negotiation and trade promotion, which has not been approved by the partners. Moreover, China only exports hybrid silkworms, not pure silkworms.

Although there have been some studies to breed white cocoon dichotomy varieties in Vietnam, the stability of these varieties is not high, the rate of silk up and the quality of silk are still low. Quantity is not much to supply for production. Deputy Head of the Delegation of the National Assembly Delegation Lam Dong Nguyen Tao said: After the proposal of the Lam Dong National Assembly Delegation sent to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) on the content of the Silkworm Association Vietnam as well as localities have difficulties in production and business due to the shortage of silkworm eggs to ensure the immediate and long-term development and development of mulberry industry for mulberry and silkworm farmers. ,

Specifically, for sustainable, effective development of the mulberry industry in the whole country in general and in Lam Dong in particular, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has organized a conference "Sustainable Development of Silkworm Breeding" on 6/ 3/2020 in Lam Dong to assess overall silkworm industry of Vietnam, offer solutions for sustainable development.

Recently, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has also allowed to extend the project "Development of the system of silkworm and mulberry varieties" and continue to deploy three research projects, including the topic of double cocoon silkworm variety in Lam Dong.

Lam Dong, meanwhile, is a key province for mulberry and mulberry cultivation, accounting for 80% of the country's mulberry area. Therefore, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development also proposed that Lam Dong province should re-evaluate the situation of mulberry cultivation, the supply, use of silkworm varieties and silk production of the province. On that basis, it will coordinate with agencies of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to develop a sustainable development plan for this field.

Accordingly, it is known that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has sent documents to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Finance, the provinces of Lang Son and Quang Ninh, the concerned ministries and branches and functional agencies have solutions to solve problems. in importing dichotomy silkworm cocoon eggs to serve timely domestic production needs. Direct the Department of Animal Health, the Department of International Cooperation and other relevant agencies to speed up the negotiation process to enable the import of Chinese white cocoon cocoon seed into Vietnam, to ensure good quality control. quantity of breeding eggs, ensuring epidemic and food safety.

Directing the Department of Science - Technology and Environment, the Department of Livestock Production to coordinate with the research units to focus on researching to breed new generation high-quality silkworms with good quality, good adaptability to climatic conditions of Vietnam, in order to proactively supply domestic silkworm breeds, especially white cocoon varieties. Research to produce silkworms domestically in combination with import of high-yielding silkworm varieties. Quickly absorbing technical advances in both breed and technology.

To encourage the mulberry industry to manufacture along product chains and processing enterprises with raw material areas. To raise the capacity of silkworm and mulberry breeding establishments, step by step perfect the mulberry and mulberry breeding and development system, especially encourage grade-2 silkworm rearing establishments to supply breeds for production.
