8.5 Gbps is mind boggling speeds. However, with the IoT rapidly evolving, that 8.5Gbps will quickly become bottlenecked. The 80Gbps is truly forward looking/planning and the type of speeds needed. Everything will be online in the next decade. Cars, phones, tablets, refrigerators, stoves, Ring, water sprinklers, deadbolt locks and on and on and on. With everything being connected it will require insane amounts of bandwidth and that 80Gbps will certainly ease that bottleneck.
Amazing that when I began my career in this field, I was installing NIC’s into peoples desktops and I was a “late comer” into the field.
