Yahoo Profit Rises, Increases Guidance

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Internet media company Yahoo Inc. (NasdaqNM:YHOO - News) on Wednesday posted a larger profit for the third quarter, boosted by strength in its advertising and premium services businesses, and its stock rose as the company raised its earnings estimates for the year.

Sunnyvale, California-based Yahoo reported a net profit of $65.3 million, or 10 cents per share, compared with a year-earlier profit of $28.9 million, or 5 cents per share. Revenue was $356.8 million, compared to $248.8 million in the same period last year.

The average estimates of analysts surveyed by Reuters Research, a unit of Reuters Group Plc, was for earnings per share of 9 cents on revenue of $337.2 million.

For the fourth quarter, Yahoo forecast operating income before depreciation and amortization of $130 million to $150 million and revenue excluding certain costs of $462 million to $502 million. Analysts surveyed by Reuters Research had expected OIBDA of $120.1 million on revenue of $372 million.

For the fiscal year, Yahoo raised its guidance to OIBDA of $428 million to $448 million on revenue excluding some costs of $1.42 billion to $1.46 billion.

It had previously expected OIBDA of $375 million to $400 million on revenue of $1.26 billion to $1.31 billion, and analysts were expecting OIBDA of $401.8 million and revenue of $1.31 billion, according to Reuters Research.

Yahoo shares rose in after-hours trade to $40.05 on Instinet from a close of $38.79 on the Nasdaq.
