The Silhouette actually was showed up on eBay sometime ago, even when they were still claiming a battery issue. I think the Silhoutte was a straight up re-badge of someone else's player and that other versions of the exact same player never had the "battery" issue that EDIG claimed.

I would imagine EDIG came up short when it came time to pay for the units and never took delivery of them. The manufacturer then dumped them for what they could get. In other words, I think EDIG lied when they claimed a battery issue. We all know it would have been only a matter of hours before the crack EDIG engineering staff had any "battery" issue resolved not years, so it must have been something else, right???
