When amateur traders announce their every move on the internet, the short sellers get an advantage knowing that they are dealing with weak hands. Those with an irresistible urge to disclose each trade and total holdings foolishly send a signal to the short sellers 'hey folks I just bought a million shares and I never sell for a loss' but they know better and they know that if you hold a large number of shares they come after you and wait for you to drag the stock lower as they sell the stock short.
