At least 70,388 people globally have died from COVID-19 and 1,274,653 have been infected by the novel coronavirus that causes it, following an outbreak that started in Wuhan, China, in early December. Though the outbreak started in China, it has now reached 212 countries and territories. 154 of those have reported fatalities. Benin and Belize reported their first fatalities in the past day.
