Nice to see a decent amount of direct inibitory activity of brilacidin given 2 hours prophylacticaly before infection of Vero cells with SARS2, even if we don't know the mechanism.

Am I the only one who was unclear about this statement from the PR:

Following discussions with researchers at the RBL, the Company will provide additional information and insight into possible joint research plans going forward. It is management’s understanding that few compounds advance to this next stage of SARS-CoV-2 research.

Possible additional research, but few advance to the next stage.

Does this mean brilacidin is likely to go forward with more testing, or not?

Wanted to compare similar studies of drugs against Vero cells in vitro to see how our 60% inhibition at 10 uM fared. A quick search showed three similar in vitro studies of several drugs: remdesivir, chinese herbal medicine LH, favipiravir, penciclovir, ribavirin, CQ, and HCQ.

Both of these got up to 80%.

CQ and HCQ given prophylacticaly 2 hours before infection with the Wuhan SARS2 virus (Figure 1 of paper) and measured at 24 hours was only ~45% for CQ but 100% for HCQ.

So, there is evidence brilacidin works pretty well compared to other drugs being tested as a treatment.

I hope brilacidin continues on to further testing, but by the wording of the PR that wasn't clearly a sure thing. One would think with B's proven safety record, it would go on to further testing and into humans, but I'm not sure what needs to happen next for that to occur.


One more question - what is a safe dose / concentration of brilacidin for cell survival?
