Heparin therapy just adds another layer of busy work. Upon initiation it requires a dedicated iv pump/iv, serial blood draws until a therapeutic level is achieved and at least daily lab work. As mentioned previously HITS, (heparin induced thrombocytopenia syndrome) while relatively uncommon, is another issue for some. Bottom line, not requiring heparin is a big plus.
