The Marine Corps will be downsizing in the next ten years, losing approximately 12,000 personnel. The service aims to eliminate all its tank units and drop most of its big-tube artillery. F-35 squadrons will be reduced from 16 to 10 jets.

The new Marine Corps is retooling to fight against the Chinese, probably in the South Pacific.

When I joined, the USMC still was geared for island invasions, such as was accomplished in WWII. My outfit's gear was designed to be transported by LSTs and AKAs and landed on the beach and transported inland for set up. Vietnam proved that wrong.
