Most gold sits around in vaults doing nothing... just like paper. Gold value is just a certain faith and belief, its own religion, related to the amount of paper agreed upon that parties require in order to extract and sell and house.... in order to then sit around and do nothing... nothing....
All that effort to just sit around and do nothing... nothing but to establish basis of personal self worth (inflate egos). Gold can just as readily crash in value, in particular if paper is over-valued, and credit/debt instruments are insolvent.
