Microsoft Teams Sees Jump in Usage as Remote Work Surges

As more and more people are working from home these days to limit the spread of the novel coronavirus around the world, workplace communication tools are becoming more important than ever.

Microsoft issued a statement on Thursday celebrating the third anniversary of Teams, announcing that the workplace chat app now has 44 million daily active users. That’s up more than 100 percent from November 2019, when Teams had passed 20 million DAUs. More impressively though, Team’s daily users grew by 12 million over the past week alone. On March 11, Microsoft had counted 32 million daily users of Teams, only to see it jump to 44 million by March 18. That is undoubtedly the effect of millions of people working remotely, which is where apps like Teams, Slack and others really tend to shine.

Teams was launched in March 2017 as “the chat-based workplace” in Microsoft’s Office 365. By November 2019, it had reached 20 million daily active users, overtaking Slack, the trailblazer for workplace communications tools.
