Figured out somewhat 2 things over the past week, figured I would share with longs here. We had a discussion back when about the Llama Llama books and royalties from them. I had asked if anyone thought they got a large hunk of the Llama Llama books based on the series and episodes. Well I think I found where that is indeed the case, those books they write, illustrate etc. and they have nothing to do with the book ideas that were written in her obituary about. Those books are the ones that are/have been released since her death with the old Llama Llama character and are rhyme based as she always had done. If you look at the books page on Penguin Readers its so easy to spot the Llama Llama series books.

Penguin Licenses Page

I found this quite by accident when looking at the sticker/coloring/activity books reprinted Feb/Mar by Bendon and Penguin on Amazon the seller for the Llama Llama sticker book was published by Penguin Young Readers Licenses. So I went to the Penguin site and found they had a licensor page where they put out books based on cartoon series. If you look every one of the Llama Llama books put out based on the series is listed where as the more traditional Llama Llama books are not. So this has to be an entirely different thing where Genius as the series creator, developer and producer. IMHO this points directly to that, each series based book with the TV Llama Llama character etc. is more Genius' than anyone else and they are getting a straight up royalty from Penguin that is much higher than whatever small percentage they have for being the licensing agent/franchise builder. Each one of those paperbacks that comes out is raise in wages that goes on in perpetuity.

The other thing I been thinking about, the RR DVD's they aren't distributed by NCircle like Llama Llama is, Genius Brands is the producer/Distributor of RR DVD's so they must be getting a larger slice of that pie as well IMHO.

At the end of the day adding licensed product week in week out is adding up, people are gonna wonder how the revenues kept jumping 100's of % and no one bothered to pay attention.

Peace out.
