that is why there is such an effort to slow things down

likely - all these cancellations will do little to reduce the spread over time

but they will reduce the peak

think of a bell shaped curve (come on - not too dorky)

isolation - closings - all make it flatter but push it out in time

less at one time but more time !!

why?

because our health system can not handle the normal curve - it would cause shortages and excess deaths

so we lower the peak but add some duration - it is intentional so we can treat the sick

and for those interested - that is why not having test kits available early in the process is such a bummer - indeed see Italy
