Darwin Bark spider silk is the only real improvement available and while that would be a great thing for the company it isn't news worthy other than a PR.

Agreed. The company already surpassed the tensile strength of Darwins bark spider (1.6Gpa) almost 5 years ago when Jon disclosed there silkworms were producing silks with tensile strength over 2Gpa. I'm not sure how much more the darwins bark spider would add.

My guess is they learned which sequence motif transcribed for strength and made a synthetic sequence with many of those repeats. Or maybe theres a unique motif in the darwins bark spider that could also be synthetically repeated to make something even stronger than the 2Gpa Jon was seeing in the lab 5 years ago.
