you are missing the point. goodwill is only the value paid for a business in excess of fair value of underlying assets. therefore if the value of the customer list increases, the value of the brand increases, the line item goodwill on your balance sheet will never increase. you make it sound like the business is valued but it isn’t for the purpose of determining goodwill, not ever!
