Clean TeQ Holdings: Cobalt production is imminent
Mining and technology company Clean TeQ Holdings (ISIN: AU000000CLQ2 - symbol CLQ - currency: AUD), based in Notting Hill, Australia, wants to mine battery raw materials using clean technologies. With the Sunrise project in New South Wales, the company has one of the highest quality and richest cobalt deposits outside of Africa. The company's experienced management believes that it will be able to produce more than 4,600 tons of cobalt in addition to nickel within two years after the mine has started production . That would almost immediately put the Australians in the top 7 cobalt producers in the world.

Preparations and planning for mine production in the final phase
For the mine, which is located in a mining area with excellent infrastructure 350 km west of Sydney, all feasibility studies, preparations and development measures have already been completed. The company is currently working on financing cooperation and is in discussion with a number of interested parties. The final investment decisions will then be made by the middle of the year. Then it can really start. The production facilities for the new mine, the lifespan of which is estimated to be 40 years, are of course already being planned and will then be constructed quickly in the coming year.

Another lucrative product: The “rare earth” scandium
In addition, the 100% company-owned Sunrise project is considered one of the largest and purest scandium deposits worldwide. The light metal scandium is one of the so-called “ rare earths”". The main application of the metal as scandium iodide is in high-performance mercury vapor lamps, for example for stadium lighting and in the armaments and transport industries. The metal has also recently been used in ultra-light aluminum scandium bicycle frames. Clean TeQ expects to be able to produce the rare raw material at an extremely affordable $ 150 per kg. The price for pure scandium is between USD 3,000 and USD 5,000 per kg, depending on the source of information, and in the meantime has even reached peak values ??of up to USD 20,000 per kg in recent years. The by-product of nickel and cobalt production could thus become another lucrative source of income for the company. In December 2019 there was a cooperation with the electronics giant Panasonicclosed, which includes the delivery of up to 5 tons of scandium per year. In addition, CleanTeQ is to develop special scandium-aluminum alloys for Panasonic.

Water treatment division: additional potential
Clean TeQ does not only have mining activities. As the name of the company suggests, there is also a technology-based line of business. This focuses on the area of electrochemical water treatmentfor the mining, electricity, oil and gas and municipal drinking water industries. The focus for the marketing of the so-called continuous ion exchange technology is on the Chinese water market, the largest and fastest growing water treatment market in the world. But plants are also being built in Oman or the Congo. Revenues from this line of business are still very low and amounted to around AUD 4.2 million in the 2018/19 financial year. A loss of AUD 18 million was posted at group level. Even if this business area seems rather unusual for mining companies, there is also some future potential here. Otherwise, a possible divisional sale could later inject a lot of money into the company's coffers.
