Interesting finding in UC patients and animal models: lack of secondary bile acids caused by loss of specific bacterial species (Ruminococcaceae) led to increase in inflammatory immune response in colon:

Whatever the cause of GI inflammation, I think that brilacidin has a good chance to help quell it.

However, there is potential concern that brilacidin might wipe out "good" bacteria in the colon in addition to being anti-inflammatory, but we'll have to run some trials to find out. Maybe it will wipe out good and bad bugs, will lower inflammation, and then patients will re-colonize with good bugs / probiotics. I wonder if brilacidin would be a daily pill. I'm guessing not, just for acute flairs with perhaps a one week course, perhaps repeating as needed. Guess we'll have to run some trials to find out.

In UP, many subjects went into remission, but I don't think they followed them to see for how long. I believe the retention enemas were done daily for duration on the order of weeks.
