I flipped open my study Bible and it opened to Galatians and right off was the notes about the Gospel....the following is from this study Bible:

"In the first 4 chapters of this letter, the word Gospel is found 10 times. Here the term indicates three important truths about Christ's death. His death was:

***Voluntary---He laid down His life for us of His own free will; no one made Him do it.

***Vicarious---He went to the cross, paying the penalty for our sins in our place

***Victorious---He rescued us from this present evil age

Because Christ has done all this, we are wickedly presumptuous when we try to add our work to what He has already done."

Now that last paragraph really caught my eye---think on it, then understand also Paul writing in Ephesians 2: 8----"For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is a gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. We are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works---------I have wondered sometimes if our human side kicks in and we convince ourselves that we are really good people and this puts us in good standing and all the while we are missing the mark.......it is FAITH 1st----then we do good works-----Reckon the bottom line is---"have you accepted Jesus Christ as you personal Savior?"
