February 16--The winter season starts its ninth week. The forecast of overcast conditions was correct. It felt warmer in the morning. As the cloud cover built up it felt colder. This evening the conditions aren't so bad, since the wind died off. Tomorrow is more of the same and some rain Tuesday.

I filled another tomato box, with five more to go. I cleared mostly henbit around the raised beds and dumped it in a bed closest to the back. I will turn it over when I finish clearing all this unwanted vegetation. I weeded a patch where I will grow corn and took it to the compost bin. I banged up two boxes from the scrounged lumber.

I couldn't wait any longer. I filled newspaper cups with starting soil and planted pepper seed in the makeshift grow down from what was once a cake container. I also started more lettuce seed and took them to the greenhouse. They can germinate in temperatures as low as 40F.

With left over seed I planted some sheepnose, lipstick, jalapeno, a couple of ancho gigantia, and a Hungarian variety. It's a mouthful.
