The Ink Spots were a vocal group that gained international fame in the 30s and 40s. Four of the original members, including lead singer Bill Kenny, were inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame in 1989. Their repetoire was comprised mostly of ballads. The song, I Don't Want to Set the World On Fire, released in 1941 on Decca, is typical of their style. It is somewhat difficult to categorize the group's musical style. It was part Jazz, yet it presaged the R&B and DooWop genres that would follow beginning in the late 1940s. The tenor solo vocalizing of Bill Kenny, the kind of rap in the bridge by the bass singer, the simple arrangement. It remains something that is good and right and true.
