KBLB’s self-inflicted wounds.

The first thing that KBLB did wrong was to fail to mention the issue. They surely must have known rearing silkworms in the winter was risky. “We are attempting to grow a generation of silkworms but recognize winter conditions may prove problematic. If so, we will be still be in a position to ramp up production in the early Spring.”

Then they should have waited to PR the bad news until they had some fixes in place. This took 48 hours. Companies are supposed to get out in front of bad news. The first PR in January looked like they were behind bad news.

I suspect these decisions were Thompson’s. He appears to have little sense of how to promote his company, in spite of his other strengths as a ceo.
