Hi I, Re: Borrowing shares to short a stock.................

The best way to prevent short sellers from using your stock is to have the broker send you a certificate. Done.

The practice of shares being held by brokerages and loaned out to short sellers isn't exactly anything new. If you want to trade your shares, leave the amount you want to trade at the brokerage and get a certificate for the remainder. This isn't something that AMTD does differently than any other brokerage, I don't believe.

Short sellers offer long investors periodic opportunities to accumulate more shares at a nice discount. The Shorts will depress the price/share below what the "market" would efficiently price the equity. If fear grips the broader investment community during the shorting, those with the ability to accumulate discounted shares add inventory and average their price/share downward. When the shorting ends, the new inventory is solid with LIFO gains.

Best wishes,
OAG Tom
