One way to save huge on flights is to become a courier for international freight companies. All you have to do is make sure that the baggage claim is submitted to an agent on arrival. You never even see the cargo and you are NOT responsible for contents. Drawbacks are that your return ticket may only be for a week or less, but sometimes a weekend in Paris or Brussels may appear attractive if you just want to attend a family event or any event. You of course have to travel very light as the company is in effect buying your cargo space.

I am looking further into this and I will post anything that I find out.
