Galp proposes to start drilling block 6 in São Tomé this year or early 2021

The Portuguese oil company Galp guaranteed this Wednesday that between the end of this year and the beginning of 2021 it will make the first oil drilling in block 6 of the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of São Tomé and Príncipe.

"In the last two years we have been processing a data set and now we can conclude that there seems to be a possibility to make the first drilling in São Tomé and Principe, something that could still happen in the course of this year, or at the beginning of next year" , Galp's director of production and export, Thore Kristiansen, told the press at the end of an audience with the Sao Tome prime minister, Jorge Bom Jesus.

Today's meeting with the Prime Minister served to provide this information and to reaffirm the good relations that exist between the Portuguese oil company and the Government of the archipelago.

"Galp is very happy to be in São Tomé and Príncipe, as you know, Galp is the leader of Portuguese oil and gas companies, we have been working on the possibilities of oil and gas exploration in São Tomé and Príncipe for seven years", said the company's production and export director.

Thore Kristiansen is in the Sao Tome capital for talks with the authorities and guarantees that the negotiations for the conclusion of this process are "on the right track", and the cooperation relations with the different ministries and with the National Petroleum Agency (ANP) are "very satisfactory".

"We met with very professional people and we had very satisfactory negotiations, with good collaborations, that can make this move. It remains now to cross our fingers and wait," he stressed.
