Perhaps in reference to today's current environment. However, as detailed inside the front cover of BRK's latest annual report, BRK beat the S&P's compound annual gain over time from 1965 -2018. Over that 53 year period BRK's after tax compounded annual gain was 20.5% whereas the S&P 500's pre-tax annual gain was 9.7%

Of course, as Mr. Buffett has mentioned, it is much harder for BRK to grow at those rates given its current size and scale at this point.
