BMG AND PARTNERS DELIVER INTERTRUST PORTABLE DEVICE SUPPORT FOR ON-LINE MUSIC DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM

MusicMatch, Digital World Services and InterTrust launch support for InterTrust Rights/PD(tm) based devices

New York, NY January 2, 2001 - BMG and their technology partners today announced portable device support for InterTrust DRM-based portable devices. Starting today all tracks purchased through BMG retailers may now be transferred to music portable devices that support InterTrust's DRM technology known as Rights/PD. BMG launched its digital downloading program in October, making its artists' music available through a growing network of traditional and online retail affiliates using Digital World Services' Retailer Integration System and MusicMatch Jukebox to listen to and transfer music to Intertrust-DRM based portable devices. The system, which delivers CD quality music using AAC, is based on DRM technology and services supplied by Digital World Services and InterTrust.

"BMG applauds Digital World Services, MusicMatch and InterTrust for their efforts to make our artists' music more accessible to more consumers," said Christa Haussler, Vice President, New Technology, BMG Entertainment. "We believe that the flexibility to transfer high quality and secure content to portable devices is a key element to providing consumers with the best possible experience in digital music."

InterTrust Rights/PD is the leading DRM system for music portable devices. Rights/PD has the capability of providing full SDMI compliance for electronically distributed music. Rights/PD-based device manufacturers include market leaders such as Samsung, Diamond and Creative Labs. Compaq released world's first Rights/PD enabled device, iPAQ PA1, last October. At least three other Rights/PD devices are projected to be in the market by early 1st Quarter 2001.

"The BMG system clearly shows the fluidity with which content can move from hosting service to PC to PD using our DRM platform," said Talal Shamoon, InterTrust SVP Media. "The availability of protected content for portable devices is a key milestone for DRM-based electronic music distribution systems."

The capability to transfer music to portable devices is an evolutionary feature provided by Digital World Services working with InterTrust. Digital World Services provides packaging, hosting and clearinghouse services to BMG.

"Portable device support will be another demonstration of the flexibility of our service platform," said Johann Butting, CEO of Digital World Services. "Managing Rights/PD functionality through our clearinghouse will clearly demonstrate that our service platform is cutting edge."
