Well yes. Paying taxes in general is not a bad thing. I'm happy to pay on all my gains. However, to pay more taxes (especially as dividend taxes)than necessary and on something that's just going to be converted to share price drop while doing it, is downright silly.
Apparently, after 20 years of being here, I still have no idea how to teach some people how to invest.
I don't know how old you are, but when I was younger I had the same thoughts about not holding long term. My father was always a buy and hold guy. Gotta admit, if you buy quality companies that pay dividends, buying and holding ain't bad.
My entire investment strategy now is, create enough income to pay for all my expenses, then use the rest for a bit riskier growth opportunities.
People underappreciate the value of a self pension.

Just my opinion, of course.
