Probably a subcontractors for company like Raytheon. Big industrial company like Raytheon, Tyco, seimens etc work with many companies too. A submarine requires a lot of different part from many different company. It doesn't mean it have to be fortune 500 2019.

I know Raytheon is one of the ballistic missile company since they are a client. My company work with them but we were fortune 500 few years back. My employer still consider themselves a fortune 500 company. Funny thing... We were helping design a type of battery for them that could withstand 50G aka submarine pressure. Fun project. Raytheon partner makes us a shotgun to use since it suppose to be 50G. The project was only $500k+ but still a lot of company were involved in it.

We in turn went and talk to a very small custom company because our idea was too custom for our supplier factory to make and this type of crazy customizations we feel more comfortable that it is USA made. Voila comes in maybe a lucky company like eltz.

I don't know all the fact but I know first hand it is possible. Those small company charge us a shiny penny we end up making only like 150k while part cost close to $400k+
