The LAWS guarantee this is over, and common shareholders are getting nothing.

It is very simple, actually. It was over as soon as they went to liquidation, as it guaranteed the creditors would not be satisfied in full. And as such, the equity cannot receive a penny.

And that is the LAW everywhere. It is one of the most basic tenets of finance the world around.
