The way the business model use to work is Quest would sue a block of companies and the first block of suits would go through the year and a half process plus of battling, Markman hearing, etc., . After the first suits were settled the second round of suits would settle under a year (companies just didn't bother fighting as hard) and then the third round even quicker so you had one big lawyer investment and then less leg work and more profit. That model doesn't seem to be working anymore. Companies are fighting harder perhaps to deter other companies from suing.

The Von Kohorn suits brought in 50-75k a pop but they were settled quickly for fast cash.
