Insured bank CDs are good safe investments. I picked up some 5-year CDs a year ago paying 3.50% but you can't get that now. And you may not be able to tie up funds that long.

mREITs are most certainly not substitutes for bank CDs. If you browse around IHUB you'll find many ultra high div stocks such as mREITs, REITs, BDCs, energy MLPs. They are all very gimmicky and not at all like bank CDs. Some are as risky as the junk pennies that dominate IHUB.
