The ore body that was discovered decades ago had not been extensively researched and detailed until the past few years. Mark Smith became the CEO about 6 years ago. Since Mark’s tenure, the company has done extensive research into the ore body and completed pilot plant tests to determine the best extraction methods to remove the key minerals. Here’s a recap of the milestones completed over just the past 2 years.


November 2019: NioCorp announces the selection of several key contractors — Olsson, DuPont Clean Technologies, and Veolia — to work on the proposed Elk Creek Superalloy Material Project (the “Project”).

November 2019: NioCorp Announces Choice of Zachry Group to Lead EPC for Elk Creek Project’s Surface Processing Facilities

October 2019: NioCorp Announces Choice of Cementation USA as Elk Creek Mine EPC

October 2019: NioCorp Executes Contracts with State of Nebraska for an Estimated $200 Million in Potential Tax Incentives Over First 10 Years of Proposed Operations of the Elk Creek Superalloy Materials Project

August 2019: NioCorp Announces Success in Producing Aluminum-Scandium Master Alloy in a New Test to Prove Out a Commercial Production Pathway

July 2019: NioCorp Files Its Elk Creek Project Construction Air Permit Application with the State of Nebraska

June 2019: NioCorp To Deploy Additional Environmental Controls To Minimize Air Emissions at its Proposed Nebraska Critical Minerals Mine

2019: NioCorp releases the results of an updated NI-43-101 Feasibility Study, completed as a result of the new mining plan for the Elk Creek project. The 2019 Feasibility Study shows significantly improved economics and forecasted returns for the Project.

August 2018: Company announced the successful completion of design engineering for the underground portion of the Project, completed by The Nordmin Group of Companies.

July 2018: Elk Creek Project highlighted in a national U.S. Senate Committee hearing for its innovation in reducing the expected environmental footprint of the project.

May 2018: All three of NioCorp’s superalloy metals are named by the U.S. Government as “critical minerals.”

March 2018: Announced completion of an independent technical review of the Elk Creek Project by RPM Global USA.

June 2017: Secured a key federal permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for the Company’s Elk Creek Project.

June 2017: Work completed on 3.5-year, $35M+ Feasibility Study in accordance with National Instrument 43-101 detailing the potential economics of the Elk Creek Project.
