The chip they are using as the base for this is already patented I believe and was created by another company. That is a hint here IMHO. They could have negotiated a rights agreement with that patent holder to exclusively use their chip design(IE others can not duplicate or use chip design) for this function while adding the software coding and programming to create the unque final product(whole uniqueness of the chip) that will create the final chip structure. The programming and software that is based on 1000s of hours of collected flight data over years as well as numerous beta testings to make sure it all works together in tandem with the FAA air traffic control systems.(you have seen proof in articles posted on this board that is in process through NASA projects and Redcat being part of this project and team)

So yes, considering all this, my guess is its totally possible to protect what they are doing without getting a direct patent specifically because they do not want to reinvent the wheel due to development costs and time constraints in getting it to market.(the software programmable chip itself) Plus, can not imagine ANY COMPANY would work YEARS on this without having a plan for protecting their final product. That is just illogical and I think eventually we will understand how they intend to do that moving forward once the product is launched. I think most here who have any type of tech background will know this concern is rather elementary tech 101 at best since no company doing this would miss this basic concern and issue. Especially one that is headed by a guy who this is very much not his first time to the tech R and D rodeo and bringing it to market. Either way, this is just my opinion and each person needs to do their own DD and make their own decisions for themselves. GLTAL.
