Sure, the loss would be allowed for tax purposes as you suggest. BUT, if you believe the deal is going to close and the .84 ratio will be applied, why would anyone at this time sell ORHOF in order to buy CRLBF????
Only 2 things can happen if the .84 ratio is applied: 1) The PPS of ORHOF will shoot upwards; or 2) The PPS of CRLBF will drop.
If you believe the deal will close as scheduled, I see no advantage of selling ORHOF now in order to buy CRLBF. Only a big disadvantage.
