Redwood Group Intl. Introduces Blacat Gaming
Gaming: The Future is Here. Fortune Will Favor the Brave, The Talented, The Visionaries

Sean Chen, Founder of BlaCat and FunJumping, Inc. explains why he is excited by his latest venture.

Why is the future entrepreneurial and collaborative? Just look around. Where are the most exciting areas in any part of the media? I am not saying the big budget, centrally developed, financed and marketed projects will disappear. There will be so-called blockbuster projects. But, for every “Fast and Furious” re-boot, every New York Times, every network sitcom there is a hugely successful independent mini-series, a news blog or podcast with serious niche impact, an independently made and financed comedy series. That is the distributed world of today. The most interesting parts of gaming are that way now. Most interesting, by the way for the same types of gaming people who are making the sparks in the other media fields. Those with talent, vision, appetite for risk. Those developers who want to get their idea out there quickly with fast access to initial funding with an ability to market the game using the viral power of a network of gamers. Gamers who are looking for new and exciting rather than, big, safe, and platform bound.

BlaCat and FunJumping plan to be at the center of the most interesting part of the $100bn global gaming industry’s future. In the world we are creating, there will be an ecosystem of entrepreneurial, collaborative small teams developing new games, gamers who want independence from “big gaming” and firms like FunJumping ready to be the catalyst. I was part of gaming’s first hyper-growth innovative phase. I led the development of top game 3D and Web3D engines and developed many game products that collectively generated $100m in revenues. These games included MU (????), RO (????) and Yulgang (????).

FunJumping has created a platform available to all of the most creative minds in gaming. We will co-invest and co-create with the independent gaming development community. Our 30-person team has extensive developer support programs that assist with product development and crowdfunding. The success of these new games will be FunJumping’s success.

I expect that many participants in our ecosystem will want to succeed as developers or gamers as well as benefit financially from the success of the whole ecosystem we are creating. With the way FunJumping is structured, they can do that.
