ARYC...With over 30 years in the insurance business I helped my clients with claims...both Medicare before direct billing and private insurance. Also, since my stroke I deal with my own now and learned some more. lol I do a lot of my own rapid test with the strip and electronic hand held reader both available on line. Neither kind of insurance will pay for them....they are only a write off on my tax return as a medical expense as over the counter meds. Insurance companies pay for these tests only if they are proven 'medically necessary' because of some symptoms or an on going existing medical problem....not just to test for 'just in case I might have something going on'.....even if you can get an Rx, the company can deny if deemed 'not medically necessary' and want details from the doctor to prove otherwise. So all these rapid blood drop test will not always be covered. I know...I have had some payment refused on some of mine...actual blood drawn test panels sent to a lab. Could be an issue in the growth of the use of a product not always paid for by insurance. Most of my $800.+ blood panels I do twice a year, the ins will at times not pay on one or two...saying 'not medically necessary even when prescribed by my doctor and they bill me for those. Just a little FYI and jmo.
