Tire-savers were a "thing" decades ago. Little curved wires that attached to the brake bolt. The wire would just barely touch the tire. The idea was that whatever junk got picked up by the tire, would get dislodged before making it all the way around, and puncturing the tube.

They never caught on much, maybe because they made a bit of a hum rubbing the tire.

"It is easier to fool someone, than to convince them they have been fooled."

For those that don't get it, it means that people need to be more careful, and do good due diligence...
