There is no question about how the New World was exploited by the earliest settlers who came across the Atlantic. From the start, they had no shred of intention to live in a mutual coexistence with the native inhabitants. They were viewed from the start as inferior savages who cared little for the Christian deity. That view enabled the New World settlers to absolve themselves of any moral blame for the way they subjugated them and almost eliminated them as a distinct people. It was the same throughout Central and South America.
