TDAmeritrade does `700,000 trades per day. I don't think that they favor a "good today" trade. I think that they actually do a partial fill first to the GTC. That way they have the GTC locked in and will probably get 2 trades (today and tomorrow). They are only going to get the "good today" trade once, whether it is filled or a partial. At the end of the day, it is gone from their book. At ~700K trades per day, if only 1% fit the algorithm, that's $200,000 per week. (based on their old commission structure).
